Analyse chess moves from a screenshot
Chess Checker turns a chessboard screenshot into a usable chess position. Upload a screenshot from Chess.com or another digital board, check the detected pieces, copy the FEN, then open the position in Lichess or Coachess for deeper analysis.
No account required. Designed for post-game analysis, puzzles and study positions.
How to analyse a chess screenshot
- Take or save a screenshot showing the full chessboard.
- Open Chess Checker and upload the screenshot or paste it from the clipboard.
- Chess Checker recognises the pieces and creates a FEN position.
- Check the confidence score. If anything looks wrong, open the board editor and correct the affected square.
- Confirm which side is to move, then choose Analyse on Lichess or Analyse on Coachess.
What Chess Checker does
Chess Checker is a screenshot-to-FEN tool built to remove the fiddly part of recreating a chess position by hand. It recognises a board from an image, estimates board orientation and side to move, produces the FEN notation used by chess analysis tools, and gives you a visual editor for correcting any piece that was misread.
It can also identify a number of common openings and save recent positions locally on your device. Once a position is ready, you can send it directly to established chess analysis services rather than loading a large chess engine inside the website.
Useful for Chess.com screenshots, puzzles and post-game review
If you have a position on Chess.com and want to study it after the game, Chess Checker can save you from manually rebuilding every piece. It is also useful for chess puzzles, positions from videos or articles, saved game screenshots, coaching sessions and study notes.
For fair play, use external analysis after a game or on positions where engine assistance is permitted, rather than during a live human game.
What is FEN?
FEN, or Forsyth-Edwards Notation, is a compact text format for describing a chess position. Chess analysis websites use it to recreate the exact arrangement of pieces and the side to move. Chess Checker creates the FEN automatically from your screenshot and copies it for you.
Common searches Chess Checker can help with
Chess Checker is intended for people looking for a chess screenshot analyser, chess image to FEN converter, Chess.com screenshot analysis tool, chess position analyser, chessboard image reader, FEN generator, or a quick way to analyse a chess position in Lichess or Coachess.
